Synthesis and Design of a 2-DOF Haptic Device for Simulating Epidural Injection

چکیده
This work demonstrates the synthesis and design of a 2-DOF (Degrees Of Freedom) parallel haptic device intended for use in virtual simulation of medical procedures, e.g., epidural injection. The process involved choosing a right kinematic architecture of the mechanism, calculation of the end-effector forces, CAD modeling, stress analysis and a rapid prototyping of the device. We chose a pantograph mechanism with congruent joints i.e., effective base link length equal to zero. Maximum forces that can be exerted at the endeffector over the usable workspace were calculated from the stall torque of the actuators. The enhancement in the actuator torque was achieved by employing a capstan torque-amplifying transmission mechanism.

A haptic interface controlled in impedance mode should present its user with a uniform force capability matching the human hand. This paper reviews a mechanism design methodology that maximizes a workspace-inclusive isotropy index. Force maximization in coreless or voice-coil motors is also considered in order to maximize haptic interface acceleration. Example designs of a planar 3-DOF haptic m...

This research aims to develop a portable haptic master hand with 20 degrees of freedom (DOF). Master hands are used as haptic interfaces in master-slave systems. A master-slave system consists of a haptic interface that communicates with a virtual world or an end-effector for tele-operation, such as a robot hand. The thumb and fingers are usually modeled as a serial linkage mechanism with 4 DOF...

The design and control of a 5 degree-of-freedom (DOF) haptic interface that provides accurate rendering of forces as well as a large range of motion is presented. We review a number of design approaches that have been considered in other haptic interfaces and the reasons for choosing a parallel mechanism for our design. The choice and motivation for the actuators, sensors, and materials used ar...
